Do you have a child in your care that is receiving services through a contracted or voucher program?
Does that child also have an identified medical condition or identified special medical need, such as a food allergy, diabetes, seizure disorder, special diet, bee sting allergy, G-tube etc.?
Do you need help making sense of all the medical paperwork and the information that Mom has provided you with?
Are you confused between what the parents are telling you and what the MD has reported, or not reported?
Sorting through this information can be overwhelming and confusing. Dealing with the child’s physician may be difficult and unproductive. If you are an after school program and have a copy of a plan from the school nurse it may be illegal for your program!
Any child that has any identified health concern, (anything that the parent has mentioned on the enrollment form) should have an Emergency Medical Plan for to help you deal with that child. If the child has an identified special medical need then the child should have a Medical Plan and an Emergency Medical Plan and the staff should have specialized training to deal with this child’s medical condition.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if your program had a nurse that you could rely on to help you sort through all of this paperwork, to train your staff and offer ongoing consultation and support, to help you formulate a Medical Plan and an Emergency Medical Plan for dealing with this child?
